Trendy and toasty: top winter fashion picks for children
Like keeping your little one warm and keeping them in all the latest trendy togs? Then you’re in
the right place! Because we’ve put together a round-up of some of the biggest trends in
children’s fashion right now. From trending colours to pretty patterns, here’s how to have the
coolest (and warmest) dressed kid at the park this winter.
Colours of winter
This winter children’s colours are a gentler, more sophisticated blend than the brash primary
colours we’re usually faced with. Inspired by nature, warm, neutral hues are popular this year.
With designs in dusky pink, sage green, hazelnut brown and rich cream emerging from top
brands and niche makers. Pastels are also in, with old favourites like black, grey and navy
mixed in, for contrast.
Pick of the patterns
Popular patterns have a touch of nostalgia this winter. A range of old school patterns and fabrics
are on display, from checks to stripes. Brushed cotton, wool and cord are popular again but in
new trendy designs and colours.
Plaid, for instance, has made a big comeback lately – and we are here for it! We love the
checked shirts, dresses and trousers found in a variety of on-trend shades. Wide deckchair
stripes in pastels and neutrals are also popular. Like this gorgeous relaxed cotton stripe jumper
by Arket, in seaside tones and easy going style.
Look out too, for comic strip graphics, tropical flowers and animal prints across a range of
clothing and accessories this winter. With a few old school comic superhero graphics thrown in
for good measure.
Warm winter wonders
Let’s face it, winter is mostly about keeping little ones warm and entertained in the wet and cold.
But that doesn’t mean you have to stay in. Here’s some of our favourite gear to wrap your
youngsters up in
Handy hats
For keeping tiny heads warm, we love this adorable Gina beanie hat by Liewood. Available in a
range of gorgeous winter colour combinations with cute teddy ears on top.
For toddlers and up, we’ve had a Little Hotdog Watson Arctic Cub hat since my little one was
three. Four years on and he’s still determined to ram his head into it every winter. Their designs
are super cute and warm, with flaps and a chin fastening to keep ears extra toasty on cold
windy days. They come in a range of funky patterns, from camo to animal prints. There’s even a
gold version for the mini party animal in your life! And if like me you’re rather jealous of the cool
stuff your kids get to wear, the good news is there are grown-up versions too!
Best boots
For toddlers, we love Liewood’s Hybrid Matt boots, which are pretty and practical for all those
winter walks. Keeping toes warm, dry and cosy on cold and rainy days – and easy to get on and
off those little wrigglers.
Coats
For the ultimate in outerwear, we can’t get enough of Gosoaky’s coats, jackets and puddle suits.
Their designs are functional and beautiful and come in gorgeous colour combinations. From
rainwear to snow wear, cuddly teddy coats and everything between.
Scarves and gloves
Scarves are obviously best for older children for safety reasons. Zara Kids do a great range of
accessories pretty much every year so they are always one of our first places to look. We adore
their check maxi scarves, which look amazingly cosy and come in several lovely colour designs.
But they also have a lovely collection of baby mittens in trendy colours.
When it comes to keeping older children’s hands warm (and mine!) I can’t recommend Uniqlo’s
Heattech gloves enough. They really are magic at keeping hands warm in cold weather. In fact,
I’d highly recommend their whole range for your children – and you. Invest in a few heattech
tops and vest for all those days standing around waiting in a cold playground or at the park and I
promise you won’t be sorry! They are like magic for mums.
