Every parent employing a nanny at home needs peace of mind from an enhanced background check. A DBS check is a vital part of the process to prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable children. All professional nannies registered with Happy Nest have a valid and recent enhanced disclosure.
What is a DBS Check
In 2012 The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Therefore CRB checks are now called DBS checks. The enhanced process checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings plus any additional information held by local police that’s reasonably considered relevant to the childcarer.
Happy Nest DBS Check
We regularly complete these checks for our own candidates who are without a recent check, usually at the time of registration. We can also offer this service to families, once you have made an offer of employment to one of our nannies and both parties are happy to proceed a fresh DBS can be undertaken by Happy Nest. Our check is completed online and therefore only takes between 2-6 days to process. The nanny will receive the completed certificate at their home address and Happy Nest receive confirmation of their clearance via email. We also then take a copy of the certificate from the nanny to keep on file here at the office.
DBS Check – Process and Cost
For a fully enhanced DBS Check a Happy Nest recruitment specialist will deal directly with the nanny and verify their documentation. Once applied for the application will be monitored via the online system, and then confirmed to the family and/or nanny via email. The cost for this service is £90 (no VAT).
This is usually paid for by the family if they choose to have an absolute recent check, based on the date of the nanny’s previous check. However, some families choose to share the cost of this with the nanny.
